Usually yes, at least partly. In the two- and three-story townhomes and duplexes all over Redondo Beach, everyone walks the same narrow path up the stairs, so the nose of each tread and the landing take nearly all the traffic. A lot of what looks like wear is packed-in grit and body oils darkening the pile rather than fiber loss. Cleaning brings a good amount of that back. If the yarn itself is already crushed or frayed at the stair edges, we'll say so honestly before we start rather than letting you expect a miracle.

How long will the carpet stay damp with the ocean air here?

It depends heavily on which room. Upstairs bedrooms with windows open to the onshore breeze dry reasonably well. Ground-floor rooms and anything backing onto the garage are the slow ones. The air moves less and the humidity off the water doesn't help. We extract as much moisture as we can on the pass out, and where a room is going to be sluggish we'll set air movers and tell you to keep them running rather than pretending it'll be dry in an hour. If you're close to the strand, plan on longer than you'd expect inland.

What causes the most problems in Redondo Beach carpets?

Sand, first and foremost. It comes home in shoes, towels, and beach bags, works down to the base of the pile, and grinds the fibers every time someone walks over it. In these homes it collects most on the stairs, since that's the funnel between the tile or wood downstairs and the carpet upstairs. The second issue is salt-air moisture keeping carpet in low-airflow rooms from ever fully drying out, which is where musty odors start. Older beach cottages that were rebuilt over the decades sometimes also have subfloor or pad issues that surface as recurring spots.

Same-day is sometimes possible, most often on weekday mornings when a job ahead of us finishes early. Call and ask. We'll tell you straight whether we can realistically make it rather than booking you and pushing it. Otherwise we usually schedule within a few days. If you have a specific reason for urgency, like a move-out or a tenant turnover in a duplex, say so when you call so we can prioritize appropriately.

We give a free estimate and a firm quote before anything gets touched, so there are no surprises after the fact. What moves the number: how many stair flights and landings are involved, the square footage of the carpeted rooms, how much sand and soil has built up, whether there are pet areas or set-in spots that need separate treatment, and whether we need to bring in air movers for the ground-floor or garage-adjacent rooms. Stairs are priced separately from open floor because they take far more hand work per square foot.
